Numbers on a T-Shirt or Jumper was a big thing for the original teenagers and Modernists. High Numbers was a reference to T-shirts with number designs, which were a coveted Mod fashion item. The High Numbers was a temporary name (The Who) suggested by their first manager, Peter Meaden. A "high number" was Mod slang for a well-dressed individual.
